Video Of The Week 5/18/2009

Quinceañera is a terrific OLLIE documentary that was made by students at Ron Russell Middle School.  The quinceañera is a traditional party that young women from Latin American cultures have when they turn 15, to celebrate their passage into womanhood.

I really like this video because it is obvious how much hard work went into making it.  The costumes and props are all authentic, and the actors are all well-rehearsed.  In fact, these students spent weeks practicing their dance moves so that they would be ready to go by shooting day.

I also appreciate that the story of this documentary is told through re-enactments and voice-over narration, instead of being all interviews.  It makes the video a lot more interesting to watch.  What I appreciate the most about this video though is how successful it is in delivering its message.  The students set out to create a video that teaches all about quinceañeras in an entertaining and informative way, and that is exactly what they did.

Congratulations to all of the students who worked so hard on this project, and to their OLLIE trainer Nickey.
