Video Of The Week 6/08/2009
Lonley Girl Says Goodbye is a terrific short animation about a girl who feels sad because her older friends are all graduating from high school.
This video was created by a student named Ellen, who participated in our Moving Images 2008 summer youth program. Ellen conceived and created every part of this video, from the script to the animation to the editing.
This video succeeds on a number of levels. The story is touching and easy to relate to. The art and animation are attractive and precise. My favorite touch is the way that Ellen turned her story into a storybook. This simple idea turns what is a very personal story into something that is far more universal.
I'd also like to mention that this video won a Best of the Northwest Award of Excellence this year in the Youth K-12 category (tying with another OLLIE video). So "Way to go!" Ellen for a video well done, and big thanks to her Moving Images instructor Nickey, who helped Ellen realize her vision.
